nespresso-grands-cruz

Using Nestlé’s proprietary aluminum capsules, the Nespresso single cup coffee brewer specializes in brewing small, flavorful cups of espresso (with crema). In addition to espresso, Nespresso brews lungo drinks (espresso with extra water), and some Nespresso models are able to brew cappuccinos.

The 16 Grands Crus

Nespresso offers 16 different coffee Grands Crus. Each one of Nespresso’s Grand Crus capsules contains 5 to 6 grams of ground coffee and makes one cup of coffee. Each one of the 16 Grands Crus has its own individual characters and aromatic profiles. The 16 Grand Crus can be separated into 4 categories: Espressos, Pure Origine, Lungos and Decaffinatos. Every year, Nespresso releases two Limited Edition Grand Crus along with a new set of varions, flavored espresso capsules.

How doe Nespresso Capsules Work?

The Nespresso one cup brewing system uses propriety Nespresso capsules developed exclusively for Nespresso by Nestlé. The color-coded aluminum capsules are filled with the appropriate amount of ground coffee and then hermetically-sealed to prevent oxidation. Once in the Nespresso machine, a blade system perforates the seal and pressurized, hot water is used to brew the espresso. Since the Nespresso capsules are made out of aluminum, they can be recycled.

Home Capsules vs Office Capsules

Nespresso makes a distinction between home and office brewers. Because of this distinction, capsules for office use are designed and manufactured differently. Capsules for office use have plastic components incorportated into the manufacturing process. Therefore, these capsules cannot be recycled.

Where to buy Nespresso’s 16 Grand Crus

Nespresso’s capsules are only sold by Nespresso, so you cannot purchase Nespresso coffee capsules from other sources. This also makes Nespresso capsules quite a bit more expensive than other single cup coffee capsules. Many users also complain about the lack of choice in flavours.
